UCIEP is an independent consortium of university and college-administered intensive English programs in the United States. Founded in 1967, UCIEP's purpose is the advancement of professional standards and quality instruction in intensive English programs at universities and colleges in the United States. Member programs (listed below) are committed to the consortium's effort to ensure that students receive the highest quality intensive English instruction from trained, professional teachers.

University of Arizona: Center for English as a Second Language (Arizona)
With more than 40 years experience, the University of Arizona Center for English as a Second language (CESL) provides English language training, American cultural studies, English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom research, and English for Special Purposes (ESP) training programs to students and scholars throughout the world. CESL develops and implements projects in the areas of intensive ESL / EFL language instruction, ESL / EFL program evaluation and management, teacher development and in-service, English language proficiency assessment and English for Special Purposes curriculum development.

University of California - Davis: International English and Professional Programs (California)
The International English and Professional Programs Department of University Extension, University of California - Davis, was established in 1969, and offers English language and professional training to international students and professionals. Because the programs enroll people from many different countries, participants have opportunities to become involved in intercultural exchange and understanding. Our programs include a Ten-week Intensive English Program; Four-week Communication and Culture Program; Management Program for International Professionals; Microsoft Applications for Managers; Communication Skills for Business Professionals; Orientation to U.S. Business and Management; English for Medical Professionals; English for Legal Professionals; Custom Programs for Individuals and Groups; and Orientation in U.S.A. Law.

University of California - Irvine: English and Certificate Programs for Internationals (California)
The English and Certificate Programs for Internationals Unit is dedicated to offering students from around the world a wide selection of educational opportunities to achieve success in today's competitive global business and academic environments. In doing so, we offer full support services including assistance with immigration issues, housing, academic and cultural counseling. Our programs include a 10-week Intensive Academic ESL, 4-week Conversation and Culture, 4-week Business English, and Custom-Designed programs for international groups. We offer several certificate programs including International Business, Business and Management, Web Design and Management, Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and Marketing Communications. We also offer evening certificate programs in many other areas.

University of Colorado at Boulder: International English Center (Colorado)
The International English Center (IEC), established in 1975, provides language training, academic preparation, and cultural support for the University of Colorado at Boulder's foreign students, scholars, and professionals. Its services include English language instruction, language testing, and cultural orientation. In addition to the intensive program in English for Academic Purposes, the IEC has a Community Evening ESL Program and also provides customized courses in Business English and American culture for groups.

University of Denver: English Language Center (Colorado)
The English Language Center at the University of Denver, established in 1975, prepares international students with the academic English skills to succeed at any English speaking university or in an English speaking work environment. Students are provided with quality intensive English language instruction by highly qualified and experienced faculty in the pleasant environment of the English Language Center and the University of Denver campus. The English Language Center assists students with cross-cultural experiences and adjustments, finding appropriate housing, medical care, child care, etc., and provides interesting learning experiences in and out of the classroom. In addition to the five-level intensive program, the ELC offers a one-term intensive Graduate Preparation Program for students who have been accepted into a graduate program at the University of Denver or another university. The ELC is a member of UCIEP and AAIEP, and has 10-year CEA accreditation.

Eastern Washington University: English Language Institute (Washington)
The English Language Institute is fully accredited through the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). The mission of the English Language Institute is a threefold commitment to students, to the institution, and to the profession. The ELI is committed to enabling qualified international students who have chosen to come here to integrate into the mainstream of higher education. The ELI will facilitate their adjustment into American life, helping individuals achieve their academic and cultural objectives. By preparing these students, the ELI also helps EWU accomplish its own mission of preparing students for a culturally diverse society. Finally, the ELI pursues its professional mission by upholding professional standards of positive interaction between students and teachers.

Lewis and Clark College: American Language and Culture (Oregon)
The Institute for the Study of American Language and Culture (ISALC), established in 1972, is an academically-oriented intensive English program which assists students in the development of essential language skills, appropriate learning strategies, and cross-cultural awareness necessary for successful integration into Lewis and Clark undergraduate and graduate programs, and other U.S. universities. Content-based courses reflect an emphasis on developing a student's ability to meet the cognitive and affective challenges of the U.S. academic environment, while developing advanced English language skills.

University of Oregon: American English Institute (Oregon)
The American English Institute, founded in 1978, strives to be recognized internationally for its high quality programs, the educational experiences it provides to students and faculty, and its contributions to the field of English language teaching. It has both an intensive program and a credit program for matriculated students. The intensive English program (with 140-190 students per term) features an 18-hour general English core curriculum (reading / writing, grammar, and oral skills) focusing on English for academic purposes. Additional elective courses are offered in areas such as computers, TOEFL, business English, movies, cross-cultural relationships, and learning about the community. Special programs are designed for specific purposes such as teacher training, English for scientific or business purposes and cultural exchange. Services include a homestay program, academic advising, trained tutors, activities, institutional TOEFL testing, and free city bus passes.

San Diego State University: American Language Institute (California)
The American Language Institute (ALI) at San Diego State University was established in 1974 to provide English language education for international students and professionals. The ALI is among the largest ESL programs in the U.S., with 3,000 students enrolled annually from up to 70 countries. The ALI offers two main programs: English for Academic Purposes (EAP), which includes pre-MBA preparation, and Intensive English Communication (IEC). Also offered are business programs, Study Tours, and certificates in business, e-commerce, internships and TEFL (for teachers of English.)

San Francisco State University: American Language Institute (California)
The American Language Institute is located at San Francisco State University (SFSU), a large urban campus with nearly 30,000 students and 300 fields of study. It is one of the oldest and most respected language programs in the country. The ALI is a small program (150 students per semester), offering lots of individual attention from teachers and advisors. Classes are intended for serious, self-directed students with academic or professional goals. The curriculum provides rigorous, intensive language training that stresses academic skills and university preparation. ALI also provides a full range of academic and personal counseling, including assistance with college admissions and immigration problems, an American Conversation Partner Program, institutional administrations of TOEFL twice each semester; and a program of social and cultural activities.

San Jose State University: Studies in American Language (California)
Since 1975, Studies in American Language (SAL) has continuously offered high-quality English language instruction that meets the professional, academic, and practical needs of its students. Classes are designed for those students planning to attend an American college or university and for others who wish to improve their English communication skills for professional or personal reasons. In addition to a challenging academic curriculum, SAL also provides students with direct exposure to the American culture through field trips and activities.

University of Southern California: Language Academy (California)
The USC Language Academy, established in 1993, provides English instruction for academic, professional and practical purposes to non-native speakers of English. To help students achieve their academic and personal goals, the Language Academy assists students with academic advisement, immigration issues, university application procedures and cultural adjustment. Other components of the program include recreational activities and coordination of support services for students.

Utah State University: Intensive English Language Institute (Utah)
The Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) provides students with the language proficiency and cultural orientation necessary to make them successful students in the Utah State University (USU) classroom and willing participants in the university experience.

Ashland University: Center for English Studies (Ohio)
The Center for English Studies (ACCESS), established in 1974, provides international students opportunities to improve communication skills in American English, and acquaints them with American people and culture. ACCESS offers a program of classes in reading, writing, structure, and speaking / listening which is designed to prepare students to participate effectively in university classes and daily American life. In addition, ACCESS provides cultural activities and field trips to points of interest in Ohio.

University of Illinois at Chicago: Tutorium in Intensive English (Illinois)
The Tutorium in Intensive English is located on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), just one mile west of the heart of Chicago. UIC is the largest university in the Chicago area with more than 25,000 students. The Tutorium and UIC offer you the opportunity to receive a quality education from a highly respected institution while taking advantage of Chicago's cultural and recreational resources. The Tutorium offers a noncredit intensive English program and additional language skills courses for speakers of other languages. The courses are designed to enable highly motivated individuals to quickly and effectively acquire the language skills necessary to meet their professional, academic, social, and personal goals. The curriculum for each course emphasizes learning strategies and language skills to meet the needs of adult students.

University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign: Intensive English Institute (Illinois)
The mission of the Intensive English Institute is to provide the best possible opportunities for students to gain proficiency in the use of the English language with a strong emphasis on preparing students to succeed in an academic environment or to improve their English for personal or professional reasons.

Indiana University: Center for English Language Training (Indiana)
The goal of the Indiana University Intensive English Program (IEP) is to increase the English language skills of non-native English speakers to the level needed for study at a college or university in the United States. In helping students achieve this goal, we offer academic advising, test preparation, conversation exchange and field trips each session, in addition to English classes.

University of Iowa: Intensive English Program (Iowa)
The Iowa Intensive English Program (IIEP), established in 1980, provides international students with high quality intensive English instruction and a cultural, social and academic introduction to the U.S. It focuses on training and improving students' grammar, writing, reading, listening comprehension, pronunciation and conversation skills.

Iowa State University: Intensive English and Orientation Program (Iowa)
The Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP) is a complete, full-time program in spoken and written American English. IEOP emphasizes the language skills you will need for successful university study in the United States: speaking in classroom discussions, taking notes from lectures, reading efficiently, writing clearly, and communicating with people on and off campus. An important part of the program is learning about the people and customs of the United States. Along with a required Cross-Cultural Studies class for new students, IEOP plans activities that take students into the community of Ames and other places in Iowa. IEOP students also meet with Americans in small conversation groups and in other activities on campus. IEOP students have the use of all university facilities.

University of Kansas: Applied English Center (Kansas)
The Applied English Center (AEC) at the University of Kansas (KU) has offered English language classes to students and scholars from all parts of the world since 1964. We welcome students at all levels of English proficiency, preparing them for study in American universities and helping them participate in American society. Our students are our highest priority. We are committed to: preparing our students linguistically, academically, and culturally for university life; providing services to enhance their adjustment and achievement; and advocating for ESL and international students.

Kansas State University: English Language Program (Kansas)
The English Language Program (ELP) was founded in 1986 to provide language preparation for students coming to Kansas State University. It also provides cultural and academic orientation and bridge courses to ensure students' successful transition into their degree programs. In addition, the ELP provides intensive English instruction to people who wish to improve their English for personal or professional reasons. Other services include English assessment for admissions purposes and oral proficiency testing of international graduate teaching assistants. The ELP serves as an advocate for international students at Kansas State University, recognizing their many contributions to the educational and cultural environment of the campus.

Michigan State University: English Language Center (Michigan)
The English Language Center (ELC) was established in 1961 to serve the English needs of international students. It provides a testing and teaching service to the university and teacher-training support to Master-level TESOL students enrolled in the Department of English. The ELC is committed to making a contribution to the field of TESOL through the publications of its faculty. Underlying all activities of the ELC is a commitment to increase cross-cultural awareness and promote internationalism at Michigan State University.

University of Northern Iowa: Culture and Intensive English Program (Iowa)
The Culture and Intensive English Program (CIEP) is an intensive program in English. CIEP prepares students for academic work at the university level - undergraduate (Bachelor) or graduate (Master, Doctorate).

Ohio State University: American Language Program (Ohio)
The American Language Program (ALP), Ohio State University's intensive English institute, prepares speakers of English as a second language with the language and academic skills and the cultural base necessary to navigate successfully in American colleges and universities, in professional settings which employ English as the principal medium of communication, and in the social settings required for successful living in the U.S. Furthermore, the program encourages respect for linguistic and cultural diversity both on and off campus and promotes professionalism, inquiry, and collaboration within the field of TESOL.

Ohio University: Program of Intensive English (Ohio)
The principal mission of OPIE is to provide English language training and orientation to life and study at an American university and provide that instruction in compliance with the NAFSA (Association of International Educators) Code of Ethics, the UCIEP Guidelines and the TESOL Standards. The OPIE is also expected to tailor special programs for student groups as well as develop off campus programs for school districts and businesses in Ohio and for business, government, and academic institutions abroad.

Southern Illinois University at Carbondale: Center for English as a Second Language (Illinois)
The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) was established in 1964. It is a unit of the Department of Linguistics. The primary mission of CESL is to provide an instructional program for non-native speakers of English, most of whom plan to enter degree programs at the undergraduate or graduate level at SIUC or at other colleges and universities in the United States. Housed jointly with a unit which offers academic training in TESOL, CESL also provides supervised teaching experiences for graduate students and serves as a focal point for the advancement of teaching and research in the field.

Wayne State University: English Language Institute (Michigan)
The English Language Institute (ELI) at Wayne State University was established in 1974 and offers year-round academic English training to individuals coming from outside the U.S.A. and those living in the Detroit metropolitan area. The ELI serves many kinds of students through its Intensive (integrated skills) and Non-Intensive English Language Programs. Most ELI students seek to enter academic courses at Wayne State University or other equally prestigious institutions, while others come to take advantage of our programs for business and professional reasons. All ELI teachers are highly qualified (at least a master's degree in TESOL or related field and experience teaching abroad). All University facilities and resources are open and available to ELI students, including fitness center, free E-mail accounts, and the use of the 24 hour library computing center.

Western Michigan University: Career English Language Center for International Students (Michigan)
The mission of the Career English Language Center for International Students (CELCIS), established in 1975, is to provide instruction in English as a second language for non-native speakers who will use English to study at an American college or university or in their workplaces. CELCIS complies with the guidelines and regulations of various professional organizations, including the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP), Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and the Commission for English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). The program serves as the resource center for ESL on campus and in the Kalamazoo community. In addition to the intensive English program, CELCIS offers international faculty and teaching assistant training programs and specially designed English programs for sponsors to prepare people to use English in the workplace. Summer language and culture institutes provide practice for people whose goal it is to augment their English conversation skills and speaking fluency.

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee: English as a Second Language Program (Wisconsin)
The mission of the Intensive English Program (IEP) is to prepare students for university undergraduate or graduate study in English by assisting students to improve English proficiency in listening, reading, writing and speaking, and to gain an awareness of the culture of American university life. The IEP is one of three programs of the English as a Second Language Office within the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM). The IEP has taught English to thousands of international students for over 30 years. The ESL Office also administers ESL writing courses for credit and the ESL requirements for international teaching assistants. UWM, the largest university in southeastern Wisconsin, is a public urban university with approximately 29,000 students and more than 150 academic programs.

Boston University: Center for English Language and Orientation Programs (Massachusetts)
The Center for English Language and Orientation Programs (CELOP) is an integral part of Boston University. The Center offers specially designed intensive English language programs for international students who wish to improve their English proficiency. The majority of these students are preparing for study in an American university; others are pursuing business or other activities. CELOP language instruction is enriched by academic, social, and cultural orientation to life in the United States. Since many of our students are preparing for University studies, we offer an institutional TOEFL each semester and have special courses designed to prepare students for that test. Additionally, we are dedicated to the use of the most modern teaching methods including computer assisted language learning. All students have access to our new Multi-Media Language Lab, use of the Internet for language learning, and e-mail for communication.

Columbia University: American Language Program (New York)
The American Language Program (ALP), which dates back to 1911, is one of the oldest English as a Second Language programs in the United States. Its mission is to promote the internationalization of the University by offering a carefully integrated sequence of courses to students, business and professional people, and foreign visitors who wish to improve their command of English.

University of Delaware: English Language Institute (Delaware)
The English Language Institute (ELI), established in 1979, provides linguistic, academic, and cultural support for the University of Delaware's foreign students, scholars, and professionals. Its services include English language instruction, language testing, cultural orientation, and foreign student advisement. Course offerings include Intensive English, English for Academic Purposes, Business English, Legal English, Study Tours, American Culture, and Teacher Training. One of ELI's principle objectives is to promote and celebrate cultural diversity on campus and in the community.

George Mason University: English Language Institute (Virginia)
The English Language Institute provides its students with quality instruction in English as a Second Language aimed at developing the language and academic skills, as well as the cultural awareness they need for their own academic, personal, and / or professional purposes. Additionally, students receive a wide variety of support services designed to facilitate their transition to life and study in the United States.

Georgetown University: English as a Foreign Language Programs (Washington, DC)
The mission of the Center for Language Education and Development's English as a Foreign Language Programs is to promote global understanding and education through its programs and services, which include general and specialized intensive English instruction, EFL test development and program evaluation, curriculum and program design, and teacher training. The Division of English as a Foreign Language program at Georgetown University provides EFL language instruction and cultural orientation to international students who need English for their academic, professional and / or personal needs.

Hunter College: International English Language Institute (New York)
The International English Language Institute, Hunter College, is part of the City University of New York (CUNY). We have offered courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) since 1950, providing a comprehensive program of language instruction designed to meet the needs of a diverse student population. The IELI serves more than 3,500 students per year, in courses ranging from beginner to Bridge-to-College. We enroll New York City residents, visitors on tourist visas, diplomats, and international students. We are authorized to issue I-20 forms.

Manhattanville College: English Language Institute (New York)
The ELI's mission is to teach English to speakers of other languages for personal, academic and professional purposes, helping individual students to develop their use of English to their optimum. The ELI is authorized to issue I-20s to eligible full-time students. Manhattanville College is located in beautiful suburban Westchester County, an area that is the home to major corporations (IBM, Texaco, PepsiCo), art centers, historic sites, shopping, and many recreational facilities. Manhattanville's friendly, small college atmosphere attracts students from across the U.S. and more than 30 countries. University of Maryland: Maryland English Institute (Maryland)
The Maryland English Institute's primary mission is to evaluate prospective and provisionally admitted international students and teaching assistants and to instruct them in English language skills. Thus, MEI enables the University to admit highly qualified students from around the world who enhance UM's undergraduate and graduate programs with their scholarship, teaching and research. MEI, in cooperation with International Education Services, bridges the language and culture gaps experienced by international students, thereby contributing to their success and high retention rate. In addition to these services to the University, MEI offers specially tailored English language and teacher training programs to outside clients, such as government agencies, businesses, embassies and overseas universities.

New York University: American Language Institute (New York)
The American Language Institute (ALI), established in 1945 as a unit of New York University's School of Continuing Education, provides a first-quality, comprehensive program of English language instruction, evaluation, and advisement, including an orientation to America's multi-culture. The Institute is designed to serve University students for whom English is not their first language. It addresses two distinctly defined audiences: International students who have matriculated (or will soon matriculate) into the University's (or into other metro-area colleges') undergraduate and graduate programs and whose primary English language purposes are academic. The second audience includes other metro-area international students of continuing education whose primary English language purposes are driven by career and professional concerns.

Old Dominion University: English Language Center (Virginia)
The English Language Center promotes effective, high-quality instruction of English for speakers of other languages. It seeks to develop in students a respect for the dignity and worth of the individual, a capacity for critical reasoning, a general desire for learning, and the capacity to evaluate their ongoing language learning needs. It fosters the continuing improvement of its faculty by encouraging research, scholarship, and professional development. The English Language Center is committed to presenting the depth and variety of the United States to students and faculty while encouraging a lively curiosity about all cultures of the world.

University of Pennsylvania: English Language Programs (Pennsylvania)
Established in the early 1960s, the English Language Programs (ELP) provides instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) and orientation to life in the United States to 1,700 students and professionals each year. The ELP offers courses and complete programs of study for a wide variety of purposes, including English for business and the professions, academic preparation, and teacher training. The ELP is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs.

University of Pittsburgh: English Language Institute (Pennsylvania)
The English Language Institute (ELI) was established in 1964. The ELI's intensive English Program provides language and cultural studies for people interested in improving their English ability as well as academic orientation for those interested in attending a university in the United States. The ELl also offers language support courses and English proficiency testing for University of Pittsburgh students.

Rochester Institute of Technology: English Language Center (New York)
The English Language Center (ELC) offers an intensive English language program designed to help students prepare for academic study in an American university. The ELC has provided English language instruction and cultural support to international students, scholars and professionals since 1979. Cultural orientation, academic and social advising, language testing and a program of social, athletic and community events are important features of the ELC program at RIT. Course offerings and electives include TOEFL preparation, business communication, American culture, writing research papers and listening in the real world.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey: Program in American Language Studies (New Jersey)
The primary objective of Program in American Language Studies (PALS) is to provide superior English language instruction to non-native English speakers for academic, professional, business, and social / acculturation purposes. PALS strives notably to foster students' language competency in reading, writing, speaking and listening, but also to develop students' cultural understanding of the world, the United States in particular. Students are encouraged to take advantage of Rutgers University's vast resources, such as libraries, language and computer laboratories, residential and recreational facilities.

Saint Michael's College: School of International Studies (Vermont)
The mission of the Intensive English Program (IEP) is to provide the highest quality English-language instruction to speakers of other languages in order to meet their personal, academic or professional goals. Intensive instruction in oral skills, listening comprehension, vocabulary development, reading, writing and grammar for both general and academic English is offered. The IEP is committed to academic excellence, intercultural understanding, and attention to individual student needs and interests.

State University of New York at Buffalo: English Language Institute (New York)
Since 1971 the English Language Institute has offered intensive and semi-intensive English language instruction and cultural and pre-academic orientation programs to international students, scholars and professionals. The ELI specializes in preparing students for university study in the United States but also welcomes non-university students wishing to improve their English skills. The ELI conducts three major programs: the Intensive English Program, the English as a Second Language Program for students enrolled at the university, and a part-time Evening Program for Buffalo-area professionals.

State University of New York at New Paltz: Haggerty Intensive English Language Program (New York)
The Haggerty Intensive English Language Program, established in 1979, provides linguistic, academic, and cultural support for SUNY New Paltz's international students, scholars, and professionals. Its services include English language instruction, language testing, cultural orientation and field trips, and academic advisement. University of Alabama: English Language Institute (Alabama)
The English Language Institute (ELI), established in 1982, provides professional English language instruction as well as cultural and academic support to international students at the University of Alabama. The ELI consists of two program divisions: Internal Programs and External Programs. The Division of Internal Programs provides an Intensive English Program for students on both academic and non-academic tracks, an International Teaching Assistant Program for UA international graduate teaching assistants, and supplemental ESL instruction for both undergraduate and graduate UA students. The Division of External Programs provides a variety of specialized programs and curricula for groups of international graduate and undergraduate students, teachers, and professionals who wish to improve their own English language and / or teaching of the English language.

Florida International University: English Language Institute (Florida)
FIU's English Language Institute provides quality English Language instruction to all individuals who have chosen English as their medium of communication for academic or professional pursuits and to promote international and intercultural understanding. Florida International University is located in culturally rich Miami. At the southeastern tip of the United States, just north of Latin America and on the threshold of the Carribean, in recent years Miami has become a global crossroads for business and entertainment, from banking and shipping industries to the world of film and fashion.

University of Florida: English Language Institute (Florida)
The primary mission of the intensive English program of the English Language Institute is to prepare international students for study at the graduate or undergraduate level in institutions of higher learning in the USA. Students are taught to read academic-level materials; write academic papers and exams; speak more fluently in both formal and informal settings; take good, clear notes at lectures; take timed, objective tests; function knowledgeably in North American culture in order to establish and maintain productive relations with fellow students, professors and other members of the host community. The ELI also provides intensive language instruction to persons already trained in their professions and others who wish to improve their level of English proficiency and cultural awareness. This is done both in the Intensive Program and under contract with groups.

Florida State University: Center for Intensive English Studies (Florida)
The Center for Intensive English Studies (CIES) was established in 1978 at Florida State University. Its three-part mission is to (a) provide highly professional English language instruction to international learners, (b) provide practicum and research opportunities for doctoral and master's students in Teaching ESL, and (c) serve as a regional resource center for the teaching of ESL in primary, secondary, and post-secondary schools. Dedicated to maintaining a 'small school environment', CIES's intensive program enrolls 50 students per term in its 23-hour-per-week English curriculum, with an emphasis on university-level English preparation. Related activities are cross-cultural adjustment preparation, TOEFL orientation, and American conversation partners. CIES also hosts special credit and non-credit programs for foreign teachers of English, combining advanced English an EFL methodology. CIES students have access to the university's library and recreational resources, new computers, the institutional TOEFL, and numerous social activities.

Georgia Institute of Technology: Language Institute (Georgia)
The Georgia Tech Intensive English program was founded in 1958. Since then it has improved and perfected the English Language proficiency of thousands of international students, including business and professional people from more than 90 different countries. The mission of the Georgia Tech Language Institute is to increase the English language proficiency and cultural understanding of its students to help them meet their academic, professional, and social needs.

Georgia State University: Intensive English Program (Georgia)
The Intensive English Program at Georgia State University offers you English courses from high beginning to advanced proficiency levels within an academic curriculum designed to prepare you for U.S. college and university courses. You may take GSU undergraduate courses when you finish the advanced level at the IEP if you are academically qualified, without further language proficiency testing (e.g. TOEFL).

University of Houston: Language and Culture Center (Texas)
The mission of the Language and Culture Center is to provide noncredit, academic English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction and cross cultural communication training to international students, foreign-born professionals, and other non-native speakers by means of an intensive English program, several university service courses, and a variety of contract programs. The intensive English program serves international students who want to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees at the University of Houston or who desire to improve their English to meet personal and / or professional goals. Contract programs are tailored to the specific ESL or English for Special Purposes needs of groups sponsored by international agencies and foundations, foreign governments, foreign educational institutions, and U.S. and foreign corporations.

University of Miami: Intensive Language Institute (Florida)
Celebrating 50 years of excellence in teaching English to the international community, the mission of the University of Miami Intensive English Program is to prepare international students to enter a university in the U.S. by providing the instruction in English language and academic study skills. The IEP also helps its international students adapt to university life and American culture. The program facilitates intercultural understanding, offers support and guidance related to non-academic issues, and builds ease and confidence in a new culture. The Intensive English Program serves the University of Miami by recruiting students and preparing them for academic study, and by providing language support services to the University community.

University of North Carolina at Charlotte: English Language Training Institute (North Carolina)
The English Language Training Institute (ELTI), located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, provides intensive English instruction for international students planning to attend U.S. American universities or colleges in the United States. Established in 1978, ELTI offers seven levels of English instruction in listening / speaking, reading / writing, vocabulary and grammar, in addition to many opportunities to learn about U.S. culture through social and educational activities. Advanced students may also receive instruction in TOEFL preparation, professional and academic research skills, and public speaking.

University of North Florida: English Language Program (Florida)
The English Language Program offers English language learners a course of study in English as a second language by implementing research-based methods. Faculty and staff of the program work with students to help them achieve their goals for both academic and social settings. Since 1972, the University of North Florida has served the Northeast Florida region at a level of national quality. It is fully accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university has about 15,000 students and offers undergraduate and graduate majors in their schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, Computers, Engineering, Education and Health.

University of North Texas: Intensive English Language Institute (Texas)
The Intensive English Language Institute, established in 1977, is on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. With about 30,000 students, UNT is the fourth largest university in the state. As a metropolitan research institution, UNT sets standards for excellence in teaching, research, creative activities, and public service. The Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) provides a high quality comprehensive academic preparatory English program for international students. Most IELI graduates enroll in undergraduate and graduate degree programs at the University of North Texas.

Oklahoma State University: English Language Institute (Oklahoma)
The English Language Institute at Oklahoma State University is an intensive English program designed to help international students attain the English proficiency necessary to enter a college or university in the United States. It is also suitable for those who may wish to learn English for business or personal reasons. Special programs can be designed to meet the needs of groups.

University of South Carolina: English Programs for Internationals (South Carolina)
The mission of the University of South Carolina English Programs for Internationals, established in 1979, is primarily to provide high quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to international students whose goals may be academic, professional or social, and secondarily to serve the University's ESL needs in additional instruction, testing, and resources, so that the existence of EPI serves to increase the University's capacity to recruit top students, regardless of any language limitations.

University of Southern Mississippi: English Language Institute (Mississippi)
Founded in 1947, the English Language Institute (ELI) of The University of Southern Mississippi delivers quality intensive English instruction for international students. The program, which accommodates students from beginning to advanced language proficiency, is administered by a professional, experienced faculty dedicated to providing ESL instruction via proven methodology. The ELI fosters cross cultural awareness within the university and the community by offering ELI students opportunities of interaction with native English speakers both on and off campus.

University of Tennessee at Martin: Tennessee Intensive English Program (Tennessee)
The Tennessee Intensive English Language Program (TIEP) was founded in 1975 as a division of the University of Tennessee at Martin. TIEP is committed to providing a high quality educational and cultural experience for international students. The focus of our efforts is to enable students from around the world to develop adequate English-language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in order to qualify for admission to university as well as to develop their communication skills and to cultivate their cultural awareness throughout our university and community. Beyond the core language classes, students can choose from numerous elective courses designed for those with special interests. TIEP also provides comprehensive student services as well as opportunities for students to share their cultural heritage. Our ultimate goal is to foster respect and to promote understanding among people of many cultures.

University of Texas at Arlington: English Language Institute (Texas)
The English Language Institute helps international students to enhance their English language and academic skills in a friendly environment which values cultural diversity and aids the cultural adjustment of students to life in the United States. The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), with 24,900 students, is the second largest university in the University of Texas system. UTA is situated on a modern, attractive campus, with a very diverse student body; international students comprise 11 percent of the student population.

Texas A and M University: English Language Institute (Texas)
The English Language Institute is housed on the main campus in College Station, Texas. The role of the English Language Institute is to provide international students with an educational experience that develops their English language proficiency, heightens their cross cultural awareness, and enhances their professional growth and development. The atmosphere of the program is a welcoming and supportive one that seeks to treat each student with respect as it emphasizes to students that they are members of a community of learners. The goal of the English Language Institute is to provide the necessary language and cultural skills for international students to enter and participate in academic programs at Texas A and M or other colleges and universities. This intensive English program facilitates international students' participation in technology, science, and management. Texas International Education Consortium: Texas Intensive English Program (Texas)
The Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP), established in 1965, provides international students with English language training and cultural information. The program accepts non-native English speaking students who are high school graduates and offers English language instruction from beginning to advanced levels of proficiency in three tracks: English for Academic Purposes, English for Business and Careers, and English for Communication and Culture. Additional special purpose courses for groups include Executive English Seminars, EFL Teacher Training, and Language and Culture programs. TIEP offers students a full range of services including new student orientation and assistance with immigration requirements. TIEP is fully accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions.

Vanderbilt University: English Language Center (Tennessee)
Vanderbilt University's Intensive English Program, founded in 1978, provides English instruction and cultural orientation to both members of the University community and to members of the wider global community. The mission of the program is to increase the English proficiency of its students so that they will succeed in their chosen goals, such as admission to a U.S. university, success in graduate programs, or success in a career. Upper level courses focus on English for academic and professional purposes.
