Our Academic Model: Since opening in the early 1960's, Foothill and De Anza Colleges have emerged as two of the outstanding community colleges in the United States. Academic programs parallel requirements for the first two years of university study. Our success is confirmed by an excellent student success record! Of all the international students who complete their first two years at Foothill and De Anza, most successfully transfer into their third year (as juniors) at one of the world-class public or private universities in California or elsewhere in the U.S.

• The American Institute of Architects has honored our campus as the most beautiful community college ever built. A new addition was launched in 2008, with the construction of award-winning buildings including modern Campus Centers, Life Sciences Centers, Performing Arts Centers, and Environmental Studies Centers.
• Opportunities to be engaged, learn and lead are limitless: Students can choose from more than 60 dynamic clubs, student government, varsity athletics and intramural teams, newspaper or radio station staffs, and cultural heritage clubs.
• Campus highlights include leading-edge Computer and Multimedia Labs, Broadcast Media Center, Dental Clinic, Stadiums, Golf and Tennis Complex, Olympic-size Swimming Pools, and a Planetarium.

Services Exclusively for International Students

• New students participate in a mandatory 4-day orientation with comprehensive academic, immigration and cultural counseling.
• What distinguishes us from other colleges is extensive staff support with six full-time counselors on each campus devoted to international students; special services include anything from assistance with class registration to career search to tax filing assistance.
• Special activities are designed for students to make the best of their experience in America, to expand horizons and meet new friends: Monthly Coffee Hours, free tickets to Celebrity Forum (with such speakers as Bill Cosby, Mikhail Gorbachev, Bill Clinton), annual Ice Skating Trip, International Film Festival, Thanksgiving and Valentine's Dinners.

TOEFL and English as a Second Language (ESL)

• We accept students with TOEFL scores of 500 (paper), 173 (computer), 61 IBT, or IELTS score of 5.5 and higher.
• If your TOEFL score is between 475-499, you can participate in the six-week Intensive Summer Bridge Course that will allow you to earn college credit units and obtain guaranteed fall quarter admissions to Foothill or De Anza without re-taking the TOEFL exam.
• Thanks to guaranteed admissions agreements with several language schools, students can enroll directly at our colleges once they have reached a sufficient English level.
• Students are placed into personal and individually-focused English as a Second Language classes depending on ability and needs. Individual tutoring in English and in all academic areas is available through the Tutorial Centers.

Application Details and Tuition: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters:

New students are required to arrive on campus approximately one month before classes begin for orientation and registration. Tuition for international students is very reasonable and currently estimated at $4,860 for academic year (based on $135 per unit for a minimum of 12 units per quarter).
