For those who are serious about learning English, Loyola's English as a Second Language Program offers a rigorous, intensive program that prepares second language learners for academic and professional work in English as used in the United States. ESL courses are available to Loyola students and applicants during Fall and Spring Semesters, and are open to all English-language learners during the summer.
Loyola's ESL Program meets the needs of individuals with beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of English language skills. Current Loyola students are also welcome to take ESL classes for extra language skill development. Most ESL classes are held at our beautiful Lake Shore Campus on the northeast side of Chicago.
With a progressive curriculum and 19 contact hours per week, the Loyola ESL Program is ideal for non-native English speakers preparing for undergraduate or graduate academic work in the United States. Composition, Pronunciation, Grammar, and U.S. Culture are a few examples of the courses we offer.

F-1 Visa Holders are required to attend full time, and consequently pay for 21 credits during the Spring and Fall semesters, or 9 credits for each Summer semester. American citizens and green card holders may choose how many classes they take, and will pay accordingly. Housing and food costs will vary according the choice made by the student.
Average Tuition and Housing Costs for international students for the Fall and Spring semesters is $12,272. Full-time tuition (21 credits) for the Fall and Spring is $5,252 per semester. This cost includes five courses, university fees which include access to all university facilities and services, and a CTA UPASS for unlimited use of Chicago public transportation throughout the semester. Housing and health insurance are separate.
Average Tuition and Housing Costs for international students for the Summer semesters is $4,920. Full-time tuition (9 credits) for each summer session is $2,195 per semester. The cost includes access to all university facilities and services. Housing and health insurance are separate.
