Academic Programs at Emporia State University: Founded in 1863, ESU is a fully-accredited university offering 170 bachelor, master, and Ph.D. degree programs through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, the Teacher's College, and the School of Library and Information Management.
- School of Business: The School of Business is accredited by AACSB International for both its Bachelor and Master programs. Only 30 percent of U.S. business schools enjoy this prestigious recognition. AACSB accreditation ensures students and parents top-quality education. It also ensures employers that graduates are ready for the workforce upon graduation.
- College of Liberal Arts and Sciences: The arts and sciences disciplines are the foundations of academic tradition. They equip the student with vital links to the past and future, with the fundamental skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing society, and the learning required to be active citizens.
- School of Library and Information Management: The School of Library and Information Management is accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). The School offers the Master of Library Science (M.L.S.), which prepares qualified students to become information professionals in all types of libraries and information agencies. Similarly, the School offers the Ph.D. program that prepares scholars to teach and conduct research in information science.
- The Teachers College: Emporia State University is the home of the first teacher's college of Kansas. The Teachers College is committed to developing skilled education practitioners who are prepared with essential knowledge and applications in their fields of specialty.
Intensive English Program (IEP): The IEP at Emporia State University is committed to helping students improve their command of English for academic purposes. IEP is a multi-level program that focuses on critical language skills such as reading, grammar, writing and speaking.
Completion of the Intensive English Program varies depending on the English Proficiency Test score and the student's performance in class. Students may be allowed to enroll in one or more academic classes while still enrolled in IEP, depending on placement scores and subject to the approval of IEP faculty.

The Office of International Education: More than 500 students from over 25 countries enroll at Emporia State University each semester. International students bring diversity and enrich the campus life.
The Office of International Education (OIE) is international students' first contact for all admissions and immigration inquiries. The OIE is responsible for international undergraduate admission, review of foreign transcripts and credentials, and compliance with government exchange visitor and student immigration regulations. At the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, the OIE also conducts a one-week orientation program designed to facilitate a smooth start for new international students.
The Office of International Education facilitates a wide variety of cultural programs for the campus and the Emporia community. These programs are planned in collaboration with campus organizations and offices to facilitate integration into the campus life and promote cultural understanding. Examples of events sponsored throughout the year include the international food festival, global trivia contest, foreign film nights, international sports competitions and guest speakers.

The city of Emporia has an industrial, educational, commercial, and medical center serving more than 65,000 people. Emporia enjoys a privileged location due to its proximity and easy access to three major metropolitan areas: Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita. The downtown area is a short walk from the campus, and offers convenient shopping, banking, and dining. Emporia is walk- and bicycle- friendly, and it is easy to get around.
There are many cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities in Emporia. The residents benefit from two libraries, a museum, nine public schools, a technical college, a community recreation center, golf courses, a zoo, sports fields, a 1,200-acre park system, and seven nearby lakes and reservoirs. Organizations such as the Emporia Arts Council, Emporia Sports Promotion, Inc., and the Emporia Recreation Commission coordinate many special events throughout the year.
