The American Language Program (ALP)
The American Language Program is an academic program with four levels for English Language learners: Foundations, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. You will take a placement exam that assesses your current English level and fits you with the correct level in the program. Students have the option to choose morning, afternoon or night classes. 15 hours per week of instruction includes:
- Grammar
- Reading
- Writing
- Speech
Grammar A and B introduces the proper usage and structure, while the writing, speech and reading areas allow for continued practice and development of English language skills. The teaching style is both student- and teacher-centered to introduce students to the American classroom and accommodate the different learning styles among the diverse student population. Classrooms function with both lectures by the professor and as an interactive environment that involves student participation in the learning process.
Many workshops are offered to students each semester. Topics may include:
- Immigration
- Effective Oral Presentations
- Academic Presentation Skills
